A new arena is opening up in the capital city’s east end, with a goal of making ice-based activities more accessible.
The Capital Subaru Arena is being set up in the former Axtion building on Hebron way.
It has a smaller ice surface, which is recommended for younger athletes.
Association Executive Director Stephen Haggerty says the new rink won’t just be for hockey, noting they could also have things such as ice skating and learn-to-skate programs at the new facility.
Haggerty says the building is fully accessible.
He says the ice surface will have wheelchair ramps for persons with disabilities, and it can be converted for sports such as sledge hockey.
The Avalon Arena Association (which owns and operates the Twin Rinks) have teamed up with Capital Subaru for the venture. The building will be re-christened the Capital Subaru Arena. It will be accessible, and help address ice availability in the region @VOCMNEWS pic.twitter.com/8kZq9rVweC
