A 51-year-old St. John’s man has been arrested and charged for alleged online child exploitation.
The RCMP-RNC Integrated Internet Child Exploitation team arrested Deric Cameron yesterday.
The investigation began in July of last year when the team searched a home in St. John’s following a report of online child exploitation activity.
Electronics and other evidence were seized from the home and analyzed. The results of that analysis lead to Cameron’s arrest yesterday.
He is facing two charges of transmitting child pornography, one count of making child pornography, and one count of luring a child.
He has been released on conditions “designed to protect the general public.” His next court date is August 24.
Police are encouraging caregivers and children to learn about online threats and safety practices.
