Many areas of Newfoundland enjoyed their warmest July on record and while the metro region was close, it fell just short. Last month was the second-warmest July on record in metro in terms of temperature but it probably felt the warmest because of the humidity. Heat warnings were not unheard of.
David Neal, meteorologist with the Gander Weather Office, says temperatures were several degrees higher than normal.
He says a lot of areas had mean temperatures up to 21 degrees. Overall, temperatures were 2-4 degrees warmer in July this year compared with last.
Neal also expects the average temperature for August to be warmer than usual.
