A 15-year-old St. John’s boy was charged with arson following a bizarre incident at a store in Galway yesterday evening.
RNC were called around 6:20 p.m. after customers and staff at the Marshall’s store on Danny Drive reported that a group of teens had entered the store and someone had set clothing on fire.
A witness told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that the incident rattled the unsuspecting customers and staff.
He’s not sure if it was a prank or part of a hazing challenge, but two t-shirts on the rack were set on fire.
O’Donel High and the English School District issued warnings to parents and the school community about hazing challenges in circulation and reminded students that it has a zero tolerance policy for hazing rituals whether they be during the school year or in the summer months.
The St. John’s Regional Fire Department was also called to the scene. RNC say the accused has been released to appear in court at a later date.
