The Chief of the Qalipu First Nation is stepping down.
Brendan Mitchell is resigning from the role after being elected for three terms.
Mitchell was recently named Newfoundland’s first Regional Chief for the Assembly of First Nations. The Qalipu First Nation say that Mitchell was instrumental in having the Band included at the table at the AFN and developing a regional seat for Newfoundland.
As Mitchell’s term ends with less than a year remaining, a by-election is not necessary. The Band Council will select which of the two vice chiefs will take the mantel until the next election.
