The City of Corner Brook delivers its budget for 2024 at today’s council meeting.
Mayor Jim Parsons says these are strange times with many things returning to “normal”—including a busy tourism sector and plenty of construction, but the rising cost of living is leaving residents feeling the pinch.
The same is true of the city which is struggling with rising costs while providing the services to residents. Parsons believes they’ve put together a “good responsible budget,” but won’t say whether a mil increase is in the offing.
He says while costs have increased, property assessments are also up. He admits there will be some “tinkering” and changes coming, but “you’ll have to wait to see our solution to this problem.”
