The backhoe bandits strike again.
This time a backhoe was stolen from a St. John’s business, and used to break into the Liquor Store attached to Dominion on Blackmarsh Road.
The owners of Urban Market 1919 woke to a missing backhoe from their lot next door on Lemarchant Road. They purchased the machine only a week ago for snow clearing operations.
Owner Greg Hanley says tracks could be seen leading onto St. Michaels Avenue.
Hanley says when he went to the RNC station to file a report this morning, he learned that the backhoe had been recovered by police. He says the licence plate matches up.
The smash-in happened just before 5:00 this morning. The backhoe was located nearby on Melville Place.
RNC say two people entered the liquor stole and emerged with merchandise. One person was wearing a black toque, a grey pullover and beige pants, and had a black reusable bag and another type of carry-all. The other had a dark jacket, jeans and white top sneakers with the Nike symbol.
RNC are looking for video footage from roughly 3:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. in the area of Hamilton Avenue to Blackmarsh Road.
Hanley says it’s a stressful situation for the businesses involved. He says it’s amazing how much money and stress this one incident will cost business owners. He hopes anyone with information will report it to police or Crime Stoppers.
