With the constantly evolving Galway development sitting on the edge of Mount Pearl, business retention is something council is keeping top of mind.
More and more shops and fast food outlets have been making the move to Galway, which lies within St. John’s jurisdiction.
Mount Pearl mayor Dave Aker says business retention has always been a top priority but relocation of certain businesses can be inevitable.
He says it sometimes happens because of business reconfiguration as one business that recently closed their Mount Pearl location and moved to Galway also closed other stores in the Metro area. Aker says they keep in touch with businesses to see what supports they require from the city. If a business decides to close up shop, the hope is that another retailer will take its place.
