People will have to wait a little longer to take the plunge at the Aquarena in St. John’s.
The facility, owned by Memorial University, shut down in September to undergo renovations ahead of the 2025 Canada Summer Games.
Those repairs were only estimated to keep the facility closed for a year, but due to issues such as labour shortages and delays with material delivery, completion of the project is expected to be delayed.
MUN says the renos remain on budget and will be completed in time for the games in August of next year.
The pool at Memorial’s physical education building is being used for training while discussions continue to ensure athletes have all resources needed to meet their needs.
The Works Field House is not impacted by the closure. Even when repairs are complete, the Aquarena won’t reopen to the public until after the Canada Games.
