A man who passed away this week is being remembered as one who helped shape the broadcasting industry in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Vince Gallant, who for decades was the voice of VOCM, passed away at the age of 88 this week.
Gallant had a voice and delivery that aspiring broadcasters could only dream of.
He is one of the most decorated broadcast journalists in the province and is in the Radio Television News Directors Association of Canada Hall of Fame.
He and Gerry Phelan worked for over 25 years together at CJYQ and VOCM. Phelan says Vince was one of a kind, and was a real people person. No matter where the contact, Vince would engage in conversation.
He would always take time to have a chat with you, says Phelan. “He was of the Mike Critch ilk, somebody you looked up to and would say ‘wow, he really wears the hat well’.”
Vince Gallant was 88 years old.
As there will be no funeral service, people looking to pay tribute can do online.
