Nine community organizations will receive a share of $405,000 in government funding through the National Action Plan to end Gender-based Violence, a four-year agreement between the federal government and the province.
The announcement was made on Friday at Thrive, which will receive $45,000 for the Coalition Against the Sexual Exploitation of Youth, or CASEY program, and another $36,000 to produce an awareness video for young people, parents, teachers and others about sexual exploitation.
Thrive provides support and services to vulnerable youth in the community.
Minister of Women and Gender Equality, Pam Parsons, credits executive director Angela Crockwell and others with the organization for their work.
“They know, and they’re able to best inform us about what’s needed,” says Parsons.
Other organizations benefiting from a share of funding are the St. John’s Status of Women Council ($38,000), the Corner Brook Status of Women Council ($45,000), Burin Peninsula Voices Against Violence ($45,000), the Multicultural Women’s Organization ($45,000), Seniors NL ($16,125), Violence Prevention South Central ($45,000), Violence Prevention Avalon East ($45,000), and Communities Against Violence ($45,000).
