A parent who formed the ‘Paradise Needs a High School’ Facebook page says she’s excited that plans are finally in the works to make it a reality.
Kayla Quinlan was among those on hand at the Paradise Double Ice Complex yesterday where Education Minister Krista Lynn Howell confirmed that a high school is coming.
And while the finer details have yet to be announced, that doesn’t dampen Quinlan’s excitement.
“Once we gave the numbers, I’ve got to say, the government, the opposition parties, everybody, they were open to talk to us,” she told reporters. “We stayed together, we continued on the track, and that’s why we were successful and got the announcement we wanted.
“But of course now we want to know when it’s going to happen.”
The PC MHA for Topsail-Paradise. Paul Dinn, says it was a happy day for people in Paradise, but he approaches it with cautious optimism.
“It’s an announcement … that this fine group, along with myself, have been fighting for a long time,” he said. “But we’re going to hold (government) accountable because we want to see dates when this will happen, when ground will be broken, when it will open, and how big will it be.”
