The Lecturers Union of Memorial University has notified the university that they’ll be taking to the picket lines on Monday if a deal can’t be reached by midnight Sunday.
LUMUN President Alison Coffin says the most recent offer presented to them by MUN is essentially the same one that was overwhelmingly rejected by members.
The university offered an increase of 25 to 45 per cent retroactive to September 1st that will bring per course rates to $7,312. That, according to the university will bring the compensation rate in line with the Atlantic Canadian average.
Coffin says MUN per course instructors are the lowest paid in the country. “and the university says well this is all we can have….and our members just said no.”
LUMUN represents one third of all instructors at the university.
