The Speaker of the House of Assembly says he will allow the public gallery to remain open for today’s proceedings in the Legislature.
But Derek Bennett is asking for the co-operation of visitors to allow it to stay that way.
Repeated disruptions of late in the House of Assembly have forced Bennett to issue a reminder about the protocols for those viewing the proceedings from the public gallery.
Bennett had to temporarily recess proceedings on Tuesday after yet another outburst from people in the gallery, mostly fish harvesters.
Protocol dictates that visitors must remain seated at all times during proceedings, and are not allowed to engage in demonstrations including the display of signs, banners and buttons, or wear clothing that conveys a political statement.
The rules also say the public is not allowed to show approval or disapproval during proceedings by applauding or talking.
Most, if not all of those rules were broken on Tuesday, leading to the gallery being cleared during a raucous debate over the fishery.
