A 30-year veteran of the St. John’s Regional Fire Department is going to trial on sex charges involving a minor.
Fifty-two-year-old Ron Pomeroy was charged in December with sexual assault and sexual exploitation.
The offences are alleged to have occurred between February and May of last year against a teenage girl whose named is banned from publication. The charges also allege Pomeroy committed the acts while in a position of trust or authority.
Pomeroy is a fire captain, a former firefighter of the year, and past board member with the executive of the union, International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1075.
In 2019 he received the Governor General’s Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal.
Pomeroy’s current status with the fire department is not clear.
His three-day trial is set for June 12-14 before a provincial court judge.
