The RNC says it respects the right to peaceful protest, and its role is to ensure public safety.
The RNC was responding to questions surrounding the fisheries protest at Confederation Building and the use of the mounted unit.
One police officer was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries and at least one harvester was reportedly injured following a confrontation this morning.
The Constabulary says it asks that demonstrators remain respectful, peaceful and lawful, and disruptive activities may lead to arrests and criminal charges.
Meanwhile, it says, the Mounted Unit is trained in crowd control. During a protest this morning, both of the RNC’s horses were struck by demonstrators which forced the Mounted Unit to retreat.
