Monday’s solar eclipse will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many.
And while viewers are advised not to watch without proper eye protection, that will be hard to resist.
Experts say the only safe way to look directly at the eclipse is with approved glasses, since looking at it with the naked eye can damage one’s vision.
Optometrist Dr. Trudy Metcalfe says if you do happen to make direct eye contact with the eclipse on Monday afternoon, any after-effects should be noted.
“Some of the things you’d be on the lookout for would be central distortion of your vision,” she said. “So definitely, if you think you’ve suffered any change or damage, you should go see your eye doctor.”
Other tips for watching the eclipse can be found on the Canadian Association of Optometrists website.
