An MHA says he is hearing of numerous situations in the province where organizations are unable to acquire their lottery license in time for their event.
Paul Lane, the independent member for Mount Pearl-Southlands, says the turnaround time is supposed to be two weeks but he’s hearing of situations where the application has been submitted a month to a month-and-a-half ahead of time, yet the organization involved is notified only a short time before their event that they will not have their license in time.
MHA Lane says groups which fundraise depend on a lottery license from the provincial government to complete their programs and services.
He says Minister Sarah Stoodley is aware of it, yet the problem has not yet been rectified.
