The opposition leader calls government’s decision to sponsor an English soccer team nothing but a waste of money.
Players with Barrow AFC, a professional football team in the UK, will don the province’s name on their jerseys for the price of $171,000.
Government says the intention is to promote the province across the pond, but PC Leader Tony Wakeham isn’t buying it.
He accuses the Liberals of being irresponsible with taxpayers’ dollars, saying the money would be better spent on such things as housing and health care.
Wakeham doubts the partnership with the team will do anything to boost immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador.
