The physician behind one of the province’s largest virtual care providers believes pharmacists have much more to offer than their usual dispensary duties.
Dr. Todd Young, the medical director of Medicuro, recently wrapped up a pilot project where a pharmacist was tasked with things such as travel consultations, medication reviews, and treatment of minor ailments.
He says the pilot was a success and believes it opens the doors for further expansion to the scope of practice for pharmacists.
Dr. Young says there is a lot of strain on physicians dealing with patients that could be treated by pharmacists. He hopes to have a team of pharmacists on board at Medicuro to create a more collaborative health care service.
