Shocking video purportedly captured in this province, showing a man hurling insults and directing a racist tirade at newcomers from India is being widely shared on social media.
The Association for New Canadians says it’s surprised and taken aback by the behavior.
Monica Abdelkader, director of settlement and resettlement services with ANC says in general, most people are open and welcoming, which is why seeing that type of hatred and anger is so jarring.
“It’s always upsetting to see these things, but in general we do know that this sentiment exists in Canada,” Abdelkader told Tim Powers on VOCM. “It’s something we always actively try to work on at the organization.”
Sanchita Chakraborty says education is the key in addressing racism and hatred.
“Hatred is taught, but kids love to learn…they love learning about loving, kids love learning about friendship, kids love learning about newness.” She says “hatred has no chance in this matter.”
