The mayor of Grand Falls-Windsor says the town is cracking down on the reckless and dangerous use of ATVs and dirt bikes.
Barry Manuel says the town has taken a much more off-road vehicle-friendly approach in recent years.
“A lot of our residents have ATVs, side-by-sides, that sort of thing, and we want them to be able to safely and conveniently get to the trailway, get to the bridge that crosses our river, get to roads to the country by using the roadside. If they do that just by going from point A to point B, obey the speed limit, and pay attention to the legislation as far as registration and insurance and that goes, they can do that.”
The problem says Manuel, are the ones who are abusing the rules and “are all over town with dirt bikes and quads all day and night…popping wheelies and doing stunts.”
As a result, municipal enforcement officers have been cracking down on bad behavior in partnership with the local RCMP by seizing machines, and ticketing and even fining parents
