The Prime Minister won’t be stepping down.
Justin Trudeau told reporters today that he will stay on beyond the October 28th deadline set by 24 of his party detractors and outlined in a letter presented to him.
He emerged from a caucus meeting yesterday indicating that the party is united despite the apparent caucus revolt.
Trudeau defended his decision to stay on and told reporters today that open discussion is key and says the Liberals have “robust conversations” in their ranks “about the best way to move forward.”
He took a swipe at Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre and some of the actions of Conservative Party members in his response to questions about his own political future.
“I have a hard time believing that all Conservative MPs are fully supportive of having had one of their members get an all expenses-paid trip down to Florida for an extreme, right-wing, anti-abortion church” Trudeau told reporters in Ottawa. “I have a hard time believing that all Conservative MPs are fine with a member of their front bench dining with neo-Nazis,” says Trudeau, who repeated charges he previously made that Pierre Poilievre “politicizing issues” around national security “but refusing to get a security clearance to actually deal with foreign interference.”
