NL Health Services is re-introducing masking in all clinical areas of hospitals and health care facilities effective next week.
The health authority is bringing in the temporary measure in response to an increase in a number of respiratory illnesses in circulation in the community.
As of Tuesday, October 29, all visitors, support persons and patients will be required to wear a well-fitted medical mask in all clinical areas including waiting rooms.
The requirements do not apply to patients admitted to hospital or long-term care residents.
Anyone who happens to be symptomatic is required to wear a mask on entry to a hospital or health care clinic at all times while inside the facility. People who are feeling unwell or sick should not visit patients or residents or accompany others to appointments.
