Strap down those Christmas decorations, it’s going to blow tonight.
Environment Canada has issued wind warnings for most of the island and snowfall warnings for the west coast.
Meteorologist Robert Grove says winds will be a major factor for many overnight tonight.
“We have widespread wind warnings across the island. Over the Avalon we’re looking at winds gusting from 70 to 90 km/h, with gusts to 120 km/h along parts of the coast.”
On the west coast, high winds will combine with between 5 to 10 cm of snowfall, making for blustery and blizzard-like conditions.
The snowfall warnings are in place for Badger, Buchans, Deer Lake, Green Bay, White Bay and the West Coast, in addition to wind warnings for the west coast of 80-100 km/h and as high as 150km/h “in areas that are prone to enhanced southeasterlies, so the outer Bay of Islands area, Trout River and those areas on the west coast, they know who they are” Grove jokes.
