The provincial government is spending $3.4-million for a piece of land in Paradise on which the new high school for the area will be located.
The province has purchased 11.32 acres of land off Diane Whelan Drive from Karwood Estates.
A request for proposals will be issued in the coming weeks for a consultant team to provide technical advice on a design and build tender package for the new school.
Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Fred Hutton says they don’t yet have a timeline for when they hope the school will be open to the public.
He says that will be determined through the design build process, and they will have a better idea in the coming months.
Paradise Mayor Wants New School Named After Former Councillor Elizabeth Laurie
Paradise mayor Dan Bobbett reveals, with emotion in his voice, that he has written a letter to the provincial government asking that the new high school be named after former town councilor Elizabeth Laurie, who passed away nearly a year ago.
“Throughout her time on council she was a strong advocate for a high school. And it is comforting to know her young daughters may be able to go to this school and complete their high school education in their own town of Paradise.” -Mayor Dan Bobbett
