The mayor of the community where the container ship ran aground says everything came together as numerous agencies responded to a tense situation in stormy weather.
All 20 crew members were airlifted to safety from the Baltic III yesterday morning after spending several hours aboard the stricken ship. A Search and Rescue helicopter hoisted the crew aboard, and to safety. They were then taken to Corner Brook.

Lark Harbour Mayor Wade Park says there wasn’t much anyone else could do in the high winds and pounding surf, not even the Coast Guard ship which had made its way to the area.
The Liberian-registered vessel lost power and drifted into Cedar Cove off Lark Harbour.
He says it’s amazing that the crew of the helicopter could over that ship and get everyone off safely.
“It’s unbelievable,” he said.
