The Canadian Federation of Students NL is calling on Premier Andrew Furey to meet with them before he steps down as Premier and leader of the Liberal Party.
Chair Mary Feltham says despite nearly five years in office, the Premier has yet to meet with them about cuts to post-secondary funding.
In 2021, government outlined its plans to make the university fully autonomous.
In December, Premier Andrew Furey indicated that government would not be stepping in to assist Memorial with its financial governance to help deal with a $9.5 million deficit.
Feltham says a meeting with Furey is long overdue.
“Students wanted to meet and address these concerns to the premier to let him know how drastically this is impacting current students in this province and the future of the province.”
