A cellist with the NSO who returned to Newfoundland to retire got a rude awakening during a recent visit to the ER in Carbonear.
Pierre Kusters who recently settled in Conception Bay South, found himself in the Emergency Room in Carbonear following a car accident.
He addressed NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh’s recent campaign stop in St. John’s, saying he had to wait 17 hours before being seen.
He believes staffing is the main problem.
“There’s a lack of workers” says Kusters, “I think there’s enough clinics and hospitals, but in Carbonear they were down to one doctor for that weekend.”
While the health care system is under provincial jurisdiction, Singh is promising, if elected, to speed up the immigration process for health care workers with the aim of making family physicians available to all Canadians by 2030.
