Former NHLer Gordie Dwyer has been named the first head coach and general manager of the Newfoundland Regiment hockey team.
While Dwyer will be the first head coach of the Regiment, it won’t be his first time working with the team—having served in the same role with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan before they relocated here.
Dwyer played in the NHL for five seasons between the late 90s and early 2000s, suiting up with the Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning, and New York Rangers.
Dwyer says he is excited to be part of the team, noting that he has a busy week ahead with the QMJHL draft in Quebec City.
The first round of the draft is Friday night, with round two beginning Saturday morning. He says the team is going to have a lot of pride in being able to go up on stage to select players.
