The Stephenville Town Council is pleased with new interest shown in the airport.
Celtic Air Services, a Cape Breton-based aviation management company, is expressing interest in collaborating with the town and the province in exploring the future of Stephenville Dymond International Airport.
Since Carl Dymond took possession of the facility, he’s run into major financial trouble. The airport has been downgraded to an aerodrome and Newfoundland Power is threatening to shut off the power, effectively rendering the facility inoperable.
Mayor Tom Rose says knowing there’s a company out there interested in taking the airport over is encouraging.
He calls Celtic Air Services a well-established and award-winning company. “I truly believe they’re exactly what Stephenville needs.”
Dave Morgan, the President and CEO of Celtic Air Services, says they’re interested in talking with town and province.
“We’ve put it out there that we’re very interested,” says Morgan.
He’s hoping to chat with provincial officials once the Energy NL conference, which is taking up government attention this week, concludes.
