The law firm overseeing a class action lawsuit involving homeowners in the Torbay area whose well water is contaminated with so-called ‘forever chemicals’ is hosting a town hall meeting this evening to update the situation.
Affected residents started receiving letters this week from Transport Canada on the results of testing of well water and the level of contaminants—namely PFAS—found.
A class action was launched by NTV meteorologist Eddie Sheerr whose property is affected by the contamination.
PFAS are chemicals that don’t break down in the environment and are linked to a variety of serious health effects in humans including reproductive issues, developmental delays in children, and the increased risk of cancers like prostate, kidney and testicular.
The argument is that Transport Canada has not done enough to ensure that contamination from the nearby airport did not leach into surrounding soil and ground water.
Tonight’s town hall meeting is taking place at the Torbay Commons at 7:00 p.m.
