The mayor of Corner Brook agrees with a caller to VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that the transportation system for persons who have mobility challenges is atrocious. But, he says it will soon improve.
The west coast city has provided a subsidy to a taxi service to help in that regard, but that approach has not totally met the needs.
Mayor Jim Parsons says the city is going to purchase a six-passenger van and incorporate it into the public transportation network. The city recently expanded the regular service and plans to run a subsidiary service for persons with disabilities.
Mayor Parsons says the new bus will provide a door-to-door on-demand service for users who need it from an accessibility point of view, and when it’s not being used for that, it will be used supplement the existing fixed-route service.
