The co-founder and a driving force behind the Beach Boys has passed away.
Brian Wilson, a songwriter and producer recognized for his genius, was 82.
He penned or co-wrote more than two dozen Top 40 hits for the Beach Boys including Good Vibrations and I Get Around, but suffered a nervous breakdown in 1964, and pulled out of regular concert touring, living as a recluse for years.
Despite what would otherwise be considered a debilitating setback, Wilson wrote and produced Pet Sounds in 1966 – an album widely considered to be one of the best and most innovative ever recorded.
His so-called ‘Bedroom Tapes’ remain a coveted piece of Rock n Roll music lore – most of which has never been released publicly.
He continued to create music and perform sporadically on stage both with the Beach Boys and as a solo performer throughout his life.
Wilson’s death comes just days after fellow musical innovator Sly Stone passed away, also at the age of 82.
