A woman who has spent decades working on suicide prevention initiatives is trying to get services expanded in Labrador.
After losing her son Richard to suicide, Tina Davies founded Richard’s Legacy Foundation to support others. Now, that organization has started the Northern Lights Project.
Davies says she will be mentoring 10 people with lived experience who will be starting support groups in several areas of Labrador.
Davies explains that it is a six-month project, during which she will be holding a mix of in-person and online sessions.
After those are completed, the 10 people will be able to set up the support groups which Davies argues is “one of the most important things for Labrador.” She says that region is in a “horrible place” when it comes to suicide, and Labrador “needs healing.”
