A lockdown has been put in place at a prison in New Brunswick that houses several inmates from this province to allow staff to conduct an “exceptional search.”

The lockdown has been in place at Dorchester Penitentiary’s medium security unit since Monday.

Correctional Services Canada says the measure is to ensure the safety of everyone at the institution.

There are no details as to what initiated the search or what they are looking for.
