Expect to see more uniformed security on the streets in the capital city’s downtown again this summer – part of a collaboration among the RNC, Downtown St. John’s, and the Downtown Security Council that was established several years ago.
Foot patrols, conducted by Independent Security Services, will be carried out throughout the downtown this summer.
Don-E Coady of the Downtown Security Council says the feedback they’ve received about the foot patrols has been positive thus far.
“The results from each of the four reports that have come back in each of the previous four cycles have been incredible,” Coady told reporters.
It’s hoped that funding will be secured to keep the foot patrols going year-round.
Graffiti tip line established once again
Meanwhile, the RNC has once again established a tip line to help identify and prevent graffiti throughout the metro region.
RNC say the culprits, spray cans in hand, most often strike at night in areas that are usually only accessible by foot.
The Constabulary is asking for the public’s help any time they witness suspicious behaviour in the hopes of catching, or thwarting, those responsible.
The RNC can be reached directly at 709-729-8800 or through 911. You can call Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous 1-800-222-8477.
