The recreational food fishery starts today in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The summertime pursuit of a few codfish for the table will be open to boaters each Saturday, Sunday and Monday from now until September 1st.
The daily bag limit is five groundfish, including cod, per person, or 15 fish per boat, if more than two people are on board.
Retention of Atlantic halibut, spotted and northern wolffish and any species of shark is strictly prohibited, while sculpins and conners may be released.
All other groundfish caught must be kept and are part of the daily bag limit.
