RNC are once again making a public plea to call in criminal or concerning behaviour when and where it happens.
Constable James Cadigan says all too often police are contacted hours or even days after an event occurs, making it difficult to respond.
St. John’s will see an even greater influx of visitors in the months ahead as it gets ready to host the 2025 Canada Summer Games.
Constable Cadigan joined with Gaylynne Gulliver of Downtown St. John’s and Don-E Coady of the Downtown Security Council in reiterating the importance of reporting crime in a timely manner.
“A bigger volume in the downtown area means more eyes and ears, and an opportunity to collaborate, work together and promote safety in the downtown region.”
Cadigan says they’ve learned of things like “indecent acts, uttering threats, assault, and property damage” that happen across the region but also in the downtown.
“We believe that they are observed by members of the community 24 hours a day. So if you see it, we want it reported – we want it reported directly to 911 as the crime occurs.”
