With the summer concert season well underway, the RNC is warning the public about online concert ticket scams aimed at cheating people out of their hard-earned money.
The Constabulary says scammers often create fake listings, offering tickets at inflated prices, especially for sold-out events.
They may also offer reduced prices on the day of events to lead buyers to believe they’re getting a good deal. Once money has been exchanged, the scammer will block the buyer or disappear from social media.
The RNC is recommending that buyers check the event’s ticket re-sale policy to make sure tickets that are resold are still valid.
RNC Constable James Cadigan says it’s not unusual for police to get calls around big events from people who have been scammed.
“For sold-out events, they’ll continue to sell fake tickets so it’s important that you check the validity if you’re buying tickets.” He suggests that people only purchase from authorized ticket sellers and “never send money via e-transfer unless you know the seller personally.”
