The provincial government is sanctioning another 574 new child care spaces, part of the $10-a-day program.
The newly announced spaces are spread among 25 centres across the Avalon Peninsula and through central Newfoundland.
Demand for additional capacity has increased significantly over the past few years, and Education Minister Bernard Davis says his team hears the frustration about the lack of child care spaces.
“I’m living it. I’m living proof of that. I have two young girls myself. It took a long time to try to find space, adequate space for them,” says Davis.
“One thing that I do want to let people know is that we’re working very hard in partnership with our federal government to open as many spaces as we can. We’ve made significant advancements over this summer and into the fall that we’re going to see but we still have to do more. There’s no doubt about that.”
