Wildlife officers are responding to the situation.
People in and around Mary’s Harbour should be cautious, store garbage properly and keep pets indoors or under close supervision. Wolves have occasionally been known to attack small to medium-sized pets.
Wild animals can be dangerous and unpredictable. If you encounter a wolf, never approach or crowd the animal, give it room to escape, and back away slowly, but do not run.
The Department of Forestry says if a wolf approaches you, shout and act aggressively by waving your arms.
Any wolf sightings in the area should be reported to the Forest Management office in Port Hope-Simpson 709-960-0400.
