Efforts to develop a UNESCO Global Geopark in the Bay of Islands region has received a boost with two separate lots of provincial government funding.

The province is providing close to $74,000 to upgrade the Man in the Mountain Trail near Corner Brook – one of the Cabox Geopark’s key attractions, and to help develop it as a provincial destination trail.

Another $70,000 is being provide to support the third phase of Cabox Geopark’s development.  Phase III of the development plan will assess the infrastructure and programming needed to operate a UNESCO Global Geopark.

If successful, Cabox will be the province’s second UNESCO Global Geopark. The Discovery Geopark on the Bonavista Peninsula received UNESCO designation in 2020.
