Businesses in the Atlantic region like what they see in the federal government’s incentive package to offset the financial drag created by the tariffs from the United States.
Prime Minister Mark Carney was in Newfoundland last week to unveil details of the federal program as it relates to Newfoundland and Labrador and the Maritimes. Businesses in the four provinces can access $85-million in federal money to offset the damage and try to find new markets.
Rhonda Tulk-Lane, executive director of the Atlantic Provinces Chamber of Commerce, says it’s particularly helpful that the program will be administered through ACOA beginning immediately.
“We have boots on the ground who know our region. And the program opened as soon as the Prime Minister announced it,” said Tulk-Lane.
She says it can be a long road to recovery and finding new markets but there are many supports in place through chambers of commerce, governments and others.
