One of the greatest actors and leading men in film history has passed away.
Robert Redford was 89.
Redford’s award-winning acting career began on Broadway, and expanded into television in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
He caught attention for his blonde hair and good looks, but he eschewed a number of roles that capitalized on the stereotype.
One of his most famous roles was working alongside Paul Newman in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Other noteworthy films include The Candidate, The Great Gatsby, The Way We Were, The Sting, All the President’s Men, and The Natural.
Redford also distinguished himself as a director, working on films including Ordinary People for which he won an Academy Award, A River Runs Through It, and Quiz Show.
He also won a British Academy Film Award, three Golden Globes and numerous other industry awards for excellence in acting and directing.
