A St. John’s man has compiled an interactive map to help people locate some of the region’s more ‘spooktacularly’ decorated homes ahead of Halloween.
Chulan Marapana, moved to the capital city from Dubai nearly 12 years ago, and was fascinated by the number of people who go all-out to decorate their homes for Halloween.
He created the ‘Newfie Radar’ website – identifying streets and neighbourhoods where some of the best decorations can be found. The project has since evolved; and now members of the public can contribute, with more than 100 scary streets highlighted.
Marapana says the website has expanded from best Halloween decorations to some of the best places to get treats.
“We have actually had a lot of people adding their streets in as well for the trick-or-treating and stuff like that, too. It’s really useful because you can make your own list, where you can add your own separate list and then you can just quickly go off that,” he told VOCM News.
“I was surprised because I didn’t think of it was going to pick up that quickly.”
He plans on creating a similar map for Christmas decorations in the weeks to come.
