Premier Tony Wakeham does not have a timeline set to reduce and eliminate the reliance on travel agency nurses, but he’s hoping it can be achieved as soon as possible.
Moving away from the use of such nurses was among the PC government’s key election promises.
The premier says his first steps will be to speak with the Registered Nurses Union and NLHS.
“There have been solutions offered up in the past by the Nurses Union” says Wakeham. “They have a plan that they think could work to help reduce (the use of agency nurses), so I’m anxious to meet with them and talk about how to implement that as quick as we can, absolutely.”
