The federal government is putting the wheels in motion to get rid of the emissions cap, something which energy-producing provinces such as Newfoundland have been calling for.
Opposition Leader John Hogan says it’s something that he argued for during his tenure as Premier in the belief that there are better ways to reduce carbon emissions.
PM Carney also keyed in on potential energy projects in the Atlantic Provinces and Quebec, specifically development at Churchill Falls and Gull Island.
He says the Major Projects Office, created a few months ago, will put in place the regulatory framework required to attract investment in such projects in what he calls an Energy East Partnership.
Ottawa also announced funding for the installation of a breakwater in Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove.
