The Mount Pearl Junior Blades are rallying around those who must travel to St. John’s for cancer treatments.
The team is involved in Hockey Fights Cancer, and throughout this month they are raising funds for Daffodil Place – a place where patients from outside the metro region can stay while receiving treatments.
Leah Patterson, who handles the team’s public relations, says the team is made up of young men aged 18 to 22.
She says the initiative is important for the team “because hockey culture is changing every day” and they want to be on the right side of that, and to understand hockey is more than just about winning a game.
She says carving out the time to fundraise is important not just because it helps people who stay at Daffodil Place, it is “a reflection of how a group of young men can make a difference.”
