Mark Carney’s minority Liberal government has survived a crucial confidence motion, with his very first budget passing by just two votes 170-168.
Government needed either one extra vote, or two abstentions to stave off a return to the polls.
The Green Party’s Elizabeth May voted with the government, while the Conservatives and Bloc Quebecois voted against the motion, with a couple of abstentions on the NDP side of the House.
Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux, who previously announced his intention to resign did not vote either.
